My Dad asked me when I three years old what I wanted to do when I grew up, I replied “Build houses just like Mr. P.T.!” (my Dad's builder buddy down the street). When I was seven years old, my great aunt and uncle hired James Means to build their retirement home; it was then that I learned about fine design and dentil moldings. I grew up surrounded by late Federal and Greek Revival architecture in Huntsville, Alabama and in Athens, Georgia. By the time I finished high school and applied to Tulane School of Architecture, I realized what I really wanted to do in my career is design homes, not build them.
The majority of my career has been in New Orleans and focused on residential design since 1995 after graduating with a Masters in Architecture from Tulane University in 1993. I've worked in everything from modern architecture, interior design, historic preservation to high classical design. I specialized in new beach and lake houses for a large portion of my career. I have a passion for both modern and classical architecture and studied modernism at a time when it was being dismantled; it was an exceptional time at Tulane, we were in the top 10 in the nation for architecture schools. At Tulane, my design work focused on modern minimalism, as most of my recent work has been renovating historic houses, my latest projects have been a blend of modern and classical, in a warm minimalist fashion.
I’ve renovated and restored houses, designed new homes and estates always with a strong focus on the custom interior and artisanal details, design and detailing are my passion and my specialties. I’ve worked hand in hand both with clients, artisans, and other designers. It was in architecture I learned artisanal details, it was in interiors that I realized the design intimacy and the fitting of the utilitarian around your client. By laying out furniture in the early design stages, I take an integrated approach that makes the architecture and interior look like there was one hand in the project that creates drama and flow throughout the house.
